When Do You Need to Change Your Engine Oil?

Typical oil change intervals

Always check your owner’s manual first. As a practical guide for cars we see in Erbil:

• Conventional oil: about every 5,000 km or 6 months
• Synthetic blend: about every 7,500–8,000 km or 6–8 months
• Full synthetic: often 8,000–10,000 km — still verify with your manufacturer
• Whichever comes first: mileage or time (oil ages even if you drive less)

Signs it’s time for an oil change

• Oil warning light or “service oil” message on the dash
• Oil on the dipstick looks dark, gritty, or low
• Louder engine noise or ticking on cold start
• Burning oil smell or visible exhaust smoke
